12 Courts of Christmas - Milan vs. Mid-Buchanan (Boys)

Milan Boys are playing Mid-Buchanan at 12 Courts of Christmas at Hy-Vee Arena today.  They come into this game with a record of 7-3.

Chekh Niasse leads the Wildcats with 12.2 points per game.  Jeremy Bennett is right behind him with 11.9 PPG.

Milan and Mid-Buchanan do not show any prior matchups on MSHSAA (which goes back about 15 years).  Mid-Buchanan has lost their last 2 games against GRC Teams (Stanberry - 12/16/21; North Andrew - 3/2/21) after winning 9 straight.  Milan is looking to make it 3 straight.

A couple of turnovers extend Mid Buch's run to 7.  They lead 7-2 with 5:45 left.  Coach Dabney with a timeout.

Another turnover leads to a Mid Buch dunk.  Now 9-2 with 5:16 left.

Jerrett Courtney with a putback, but Mid Buch breaks the press easily.  11-4 Mid Buch with 4:19 left.

Another Milan turnover.  Another Mid Buch dunk.  13-4 Mid Buch 3:30 left.

Brady Sayre answers with a 3 on the other end.  13-7 with 2:46 left.

Mid Buch with a long 2.  Milan having a hard time with the press and calls their 2nd timeout.  15-7 Mid Buch with 1:37 left.

Joe Clark for Mid Buch has his 3rd dunk of the game.  Chekh answers with a bucket.  17-9 with 47 sec left.

Mid Buch turns another Wildcat turnover into 2 points.  19-9 with 23.6 sec left.

Chekh with a put back ends scoring in the 1st.  Mid-Buchanan 19 Milan 11 after 1.

2nd Quarter
Mid Buch hits 1 of 2 free throws after a Gonzalez foul.  20-11 with 7:15 left.

Chekh with a jumper to make it 20-13 with 6:55 left.

Jeremy Bennett with a bucket after second effort.  Milan down 20-15 with 6:15 left.

Bennett with a left-hand runner.  Now 20-17 with 5:40 left.

After a Mid Buch turnover, Ahmet with a bucket.  Mid Buch answers.  22-19 Mid Buch with 4:53 left.

Mid Buch with a drive and a bucket.  24-19 with 3:35 left.

Jeremy Bennett fouled on a jumper. He hits both free throws.  Mid Buch goes coast to coast with a bucket.  26-21 with 3:00 left.

Brady Sayre with a bucket.  26-23 with 2:40 left.

3rd Quarter
Mid Buch with 2 buckets to open the half.  They extend their lead to 32-24.  Milan with a timeout with 6:32 left.

Mid Buch extends run to 6 points to open the half, but Michael Pipes with a putback to make it 34-26 with 4:34 left.

Pipes with another bucket, but Mid Buch breaks the press with a layup.  36-28 with 4:00 left.

A turnover turns into a bucket for Chekh Niasse.  36-30 with 3:00 left.

Mid Buch with a bucket to make it 38-30 with a minute left.

Mid Buch closes out the scoring in the 3rd with another Clark dunk.  Mid Buchanan 40 Milan 30 at the end of the 3rd Quarter.

4th Quarter
Mid Buch opens the scoring in the 4th with a bucket.  Now 42-30 with 6:47 left.

A 3 from the top of the key for Mid Buch extends their run to 9 straight and a 45-30 lead with 5:16 left.

Mid Buch throws up a prayer from 3 and hits it.  "A Bad Decision" according to the livestream broadcaster next to me.  They extend their lead to 48-30 with 4:00 left.

Chekh Niasse ends the run with a 3.  Now 48-33 with 3:22 left.

Another 3 goes down for Mid Buch.  51-33 with 2:47 left.

Ahmet Niasse fouled and hits a free throw.  51-34 with 2:35 left.

Nathan Keck closes out the scoring with a 3, but falls 53-37

Bell Game Rivalry joins the GRC

by Jeremy Benson, GrandRiverConference.com It's a mere 12 miles that separate Brookfield High School and Marceline High School, as per Google Maps.  But what's truly remarkable is the 54-year hiatus since these two schools last clashed in a conference football game. Brookfield and Marceline were both in the North Central Missouri Conference (NCMC) in 1970.  In 1970, the NCMC decided to fold.  A new conference with the same name would be organized,  Brookfield remained in a revamped NCMC from 1971 to 1975 before going independent until 1986, when they joined the Tri-Rivers Conference.  They jumped to the Clarence Cannon Conference (CCC) in 2010. Marceline was in the Northern Missouri Conference from 1971 to 1974 before joining the Lewis & Clark Conference in 1975, where they would be members for almost 50 years.
