Bishop LeBlond Holiday Tournament - Girls Third Place - North Andrew vs. Savannah

North Andrew Girls will play Savannah in the 3rd Place game of the Bishop LeBlond Holiday Tournament at 4:00 on December 29.

North Andrew defeated East Buchanan in the first round of the tournament 46-34, but lost to Bishop LeBlond 43-27 in the semifinals.  

Based on a research of past seasons on MSHSAA, these two teams have not played each other (at least in the past 15 years) even though they are separated by only ten miles.

North Andrew comes into the game with a record of 6-3.

Madison Lillard leads the Cardinals in scoring at 8.9 points a game while Brylie Brincks is second with 8.0.  Brincks leads the GRC in Free Throw shooting percentage at 89.5%.  Lillard is 2nd in the GRC with 2.6 3-point FG per game.  She had 6 3-pointers vs. King City which is the most by any GRC girls player this season.

North Andrew gets the tip.  Riley Walker starts the scoring with a drive.  North Andrew is up 2-0. 7:25 left.

After an empty possession, Ellie Lawrence with a bucket to put the Cardinals up 4-0 with 6:41 left.

Savannah with a free throw and then a bucket on a put back.  Madison Lillard then hits a 3 to put North Andrew up 7-3 with 5:36 left.

Riley Walker with a lay up on an inbounds pass.  North Andrew up 9-3 with 4:30 left.

After a Savannah bucket, Lillard with another 3, this time from the baseline.  Cardinals lead 12-5 with 3:45 left.

Savannah with a bucket, but Piper Cook is fouled and hits a free throw.  Cardinals lead 13-7 with 2:01 left.

Savannah answers with a 3 to cut the Cardinal lead to 13-10.  1:13 left in 1st.

Cassidy Brittain with a bucket to put the Cardinals up 15-10.  29.7 left.

North Andrew leads 15-10 after the 1st Quarter

2nd Quarter

Lillard with another 3. 18-10 Cardinals with 6:11 left.

Riley Walker with a jump hook.  Cardinals extend the lead to 20-10.  5:25 left.

Brittain hits 1 out of 2 free throws.  Cardinals up 21-10.  4:23 left.

Reagan Walker with a jumper to put Cardinals up 23-10. Savannah with a drive to answer.  Now 23-12 with 3:30 left.

Savannah with 2 free throws, then Brittain hits 1 out of 2 again.  Cardinals up 24-14.  2:22 left.

Brittain back to the line. She hits both.  26-14 1:20 left.

Savannah with a bucket and a foul.  They hit the free throw.  Cardinals lead 26-17 at halftime.

3rd Quarter

Savannah opens up the scoring in the 3rd with a free throw.  Cardinals up 26-18 with 6:30 left.

Riley Walker picks up her 4th foul with 5:34 left.  Looked like a charge on Savannah, but oh well.

Savannah with a bucket to cut it to 26-20.  Cardinals call a timeout with 4:43 left.

Savannah with another bucket after the timeout.  After a stop, Savannah gets fouled and hits both.  They are on a 10-0 run to cut the lead to 26-24 with 3:47 left.

Cardinals are having problems with Savannah's full court pressure.  They turn it over on 4 straight possessions.  They have yet to score in the 3rd with 2:00 left in 3rd.

Savannah hits a free throw to cut it to 26-25.  North Andrew turns it over again.  1:35 left.

Brincks scores for North Andrew with 20 sec left and then Savannah with a fast break bucket at the buzzer.  Cardinals hold a slim 28-27 lead after 3.

4th Quarter

Riley Walker with a bucket and foul.  She hits the free throw.  Cardinals up 31-27 with 6:37 left.

Savannah with a free throw.  Riley Walker answers with a free throw.  Cardinals up 32-28 with 4:58 left.

Cardinals still having trouble with Savannah's pressure.  They turn it over again and Savannah with a long 2 to cut it to 32-30.  Now 3:55 left.

Reagan Walker with a jumper to put the Cardinals up 34-30.  3:10 left.

Savannah answers with a 3; Cardinals turn it over again.  Timeout Savannah with 2:45 left.  Cardinals lead 34-33.

Lillard with a big 3 with 2:01 left.  Cardinals now up 37-33.

Savannah with a 2 to answer.  37-35 with 1:07 left.  

Timeout Savannah with 51.0 left.

Madison Lillard fouls Savannah player with 23.8 left.  She hits one.  37-36 Cardinals.

Brincks fouled with 19.7 seconds left.  She has 1-1.

Brincks hits one of two.  Cardinals lead 38-36.

Brincks with a big steal.  She is fouled with 7.6 left.  She hits both.  40-36 Cardinals.

Cardinals win 40-36.

Bell Game Rivalry joins the GRC

by Jeremy Benson, GrandRiverConference.com It's a mere 12 miles that separate Brookfield High School and Marceline High School, as per Google Maps.  But what's truly remarkable is the 54-year hiatus since these two schools last clashed in a conference football game. Brookfield and Marceline were both in the North Central Missouri Conference (NCMC) in 1970.  In 1970, the NCMC decided to fold.  A new conference with the same name would be organized,  Brookfield remained in a revamped NCMC from 1971 to 1975 before going independent until 1986, when they joined the Tri-Rivers Conference.  They jumped to the Clarence Cannon Conference (CCC) in 2010. Marceline was in the Northern Missouri Conference from 1971 to 1974 before joining the Lewis & Clark Conference in 1975, where they would be members for almost 50 years.
