GRC Sectional Notes

Seven GRC teams won District Championships which means that they will be playing in State Sectionals.  Here is the schedule for Sectionals for GRC teams:

St. Joseph Christian vs. Platte Valley Girls
St. Joseph Christian (21-6) and Platte Valley (25-1) have not faced each other since Platte Valley started their co-op with Jefferson and South Nodaway.  The last time that St. Joseph Christian face South Nodaway was 12/9/2014 in a 50-28 loss.  The last time they face Jefferson was 1/9/2015 in a 53-23 loss.

St. Joseph Christian (SJCS) and Platte Valley (PV) have faced 8 common opponents:

GRC District Preview

Class 1-3 Districts start on Saturday, February 19.  GRC Schools are spread among 7 different districts:
  • Class 1 District 14: North Harrison
  • Class 1 District 15: Pattonsburg, St. Joseph Christian, Stanberry
  • Class 1 District 16: Worth County
  • Class 2 District 6: Princeton, Putnam County
  • Class 2 District 15: Gallatin, Maysville, Polo
  • Class 2 District 16: Albany, King City, North Andrew
  • Class 3 District 16: Milan, South Harrison, Trenton
Class 1 District 14 (at Mercer)
North Harrison Girls (7-19) are the #4 seed and will play #5 Gilman City on Saturday, February 19 at 6:00 pm.  It will be the 4th meeting between North Harrison and Gilman City this season.  Gilman City was victorious against North Harrison 49-23 in the consolation semifinals of the Gallatin Tournament.  North Harrison was able to avenge their first loss against the Hawks with wins over Gilman City 39-26 in a regular season game and 44-32 in the consolation final of the Gilman City Tournament.

North Harrison is led in scoring by Camden Castleberry with 10.2 points per game.

North Harrison Boys (8-18) are the #5 seed and will play #4 Mercer on Saturday, February 19 at 7:30 pm.  It will be the 2nd meeting between North Harrison and Mercer this season.  Mercer defeated North Harrison 29-26 in the consolation final of the South Harrison Tournament.

North Harrison is led in scoring by Wade Briggs with 11.4 points per game.

Class 1 District 15 (at St. Joseph Christian)
Pattonsburg Girls (17-8) are the #4 seed and will play #5 Winston on Saturday, February 19 at 12:00 pm.  It will be the 2nd meeting between Pattonsburg and Winston this season.  Pattonsburg defeated Winston 42-27 when they met in December.  Pattonsburg has won 9 straight vs. the Redbirds.

Pattonsburg is led in scoring by Webby Bailey with 21.0 points per game

Pattonsburg Boys (12-13) are the #4 seed and will play #5 Northland Christian on Monday, February 21 at 4:30 pm.  They have not played this season.  Northland Christian defeated Pattonsburg last season 45-43 in a regular season meeting between the two boy's teams.

Pattonsburg is led in scoring by Zane Reed with 21.5 points per game and Gage Iddings with 10.3.

St. Joseph Christian Girls (19-6) are the #1 seed and will play the winner of #4 Pattonsburg and #5 Winston on Tuesday, February 22 at 6:00 pm.  SJC has defeated Pattonsburg twice this season, but has not met Winston since the 2017-18 season when SJC won 47-26.

St. Joseph Christian is led in scoring by Chloe Burnham with 19.0 points per game and Lexi McDaniel with 14.1.

St. Joseph Christian Boys (18-8) are the #3 seed and will play #6 DeKalb on Monday, February 21 at 7:30 pm.  It will be the 2nd meeting between SJC and DeKalb this season.  SJC defeated DeKalb 74-35 when they met in November.

St. Joseph Christian is led in scoring by Camden Lutz with 19.3 points per game and Carson Bowman with 16.2.

Stanberry Girls (16-6) are the #2 seed and will play the winner of #3 DeKalb and #6 Union Star.  Stanberry defeated DeKalb 55-37 in the championship of the King City Tournament.  They also defeated DeKalb in the district championship game last season.  Stanberry last played Union Star in December 2010.

Stanberry is led in scoring by Lexi Craig with 18.1 points per game and Amelia Wallace with 10.0.

Stanberry Boys (20-3) are the #1 seed and will play the winner of #4 Pattonsburg and #5 Northland Christian.  Stanberry defeated Pattonsburg in early February 73-43 and has won 3 straight vs. the Panthers.  Stanberry has not played Northland Christian.

Stanberry is led in scoring by Austin Schwebach with 16.6 points per game, Tyler Schwebach with 14.2 and Colby McQuinn with 10.7.

Class 1 District 16 (at Mound City)
Worth County Girls (2-21) are the #6 seed and will play #3 North Nodaway on Monday, February 21 at 7:00 pm.  North Nodaway defeated Worth County in early February 49-34.

Worth County is led in scoring by Ali Brown with 7.2 points per game.

Worth County Boys (14-6) are the #3 seed and will play #6 South Holt on Saturday, February 19 at 2:30 pm.  There is no record of Worth County and South Holt playing since 2007-2008 season which is as far back as MSHSAA games go.

Worth County is led in scoring by Aydan Gladstone with 18.8 points per game, Jackson Runde with 12.0, Tyler New with 11.4 and Grant Cameron with 10.0

Class 2 District 6 (at Schuyler County)
Princeton Girls (16-8) are the #4 seed and will play #5 Putnam County (10-12) on Monday, February 21 at 6:00 pm.  Princeton defeated Putnam County 55-49 in early February and has won 7 straight against the Midgets.

Princeton is led in scoring by Addy Henke with 19.9 points per game and Lauren Krohn with 12.2.  Putnam County is led in scoring by Claire Tipton with 15.1 points per game. Unfortunately, Tipton is out with an injury.

Princeton Boys (9-16) are the #5 seed and will play #4 Scotland County on Tuesday, February 22 at 6:00 pm.  Princeton last played Scotland County in February 2019 where they won 46-40 in District Semifinals.

Princeton is led in scoring by Talan Holt with 17.2 points per game.

Putnam County Boys (20-2) are the #1 seed and will play the winner of #4 Scotland County and #5 Princeton on Thursday, February 24 at 6:00 pm.  Putnam County defeated Princeton 80-42 in early February and is 2-0 vs. Scotland County this season.  They defeated Scotland County 67-52 in the Tri-Rivers Classic Semifinals in December and then defeated them the following week 66-52 at Scotland County.

Putnam County is led in scoring by Landon Wood with 16.4 points per game, Zach Hiedenwith with 12.9 and Owen Ream with 12.2.

Class 2 District 15 (at Gallatin)
Polo Girls (20-6) are the #2 seed and will play #7 Gallatin (4-19) on Saturday, February 19 at 1:00 pm.  Polo defeated Gallatin 57-30 in January and has won 4 straight vs. the Bulldogs.

Polo is led in scoring by Mary Copeland with 15.1 points per game.  Gallatin is led in scoring by Annabelle Ball with 12.6 points per game.

Gallatin Boys (19-6) are the #3 seed and will play #6 Polo (13-13) on Monday, February 21 at 6:00 pm.  Gallatin defeated Polo 73-48 in January and has won 7 straight vs. the Panthers.

Gallatin is led in scoring by Isaac Bird with 21.7 points per game and Payton Feiden with 14.2.  Polo is led in scoring by Trent Raby with 16.2 points per game and Maverick Gentry with 11.9.

Maysville Girls (12-12) are the #5 seed and will play #4 Plattsburg on Saturday, February 19 at 4:00 pm.  Maysville and Plattsburg last played in December 2015.

Maysville is led in scoring by Ashley Brown with 11.6 points per game.

Maysville Boys (18-6) are the #4 seed and will play #5 North Platte on Monday, February 21 at 7:30 pm.  Maysville defeated North Platte 66-61 in January.

Maysville is led in scoring by Logan Kimbrell with 13.5 points per game, Kobyn Metzger with 10.4 and Dillon Willis with 10.1.

Class 2 District 16 (at North Andrew)
Albany Girls (0-16) are the #6 seed and will play #3 Nodaway Valley on Saturday, February 19 at 11:00 am.  Nodaway Valley defeated Albany 63-22 in December.

Albany is led in scoring by Abby Troncin with 7.4 points per game.

King City Girls (12-12) are the #5 seed and will play #4 East Atchison on Saturday, February 19 at 1:00 pm.  King City has never played East Atchison.  They last played Fairfax in February 2012.  

King City is led in scoring by Zoe Tunks with 12.0 points per game.

Albany Boys (12-13) are the #3 seed and will play #6 King City (5-14) on Monday, February 21 at 5:00 pm.  Albany is 2-0 vs. King City this season.  They won 51-39 in a conference game in January and won 45-25 in the Stanberry Tournament consolation semifinals.  Albany has won 5 straight vs. King City.

Albany is led in scoring by Kemper Cline with 20.1 points per game.  King City is led in scoring by Parker Muff with 7.9 points per game.

North Andrew Girls (16-9) are the #2 seed and will play the winner of #3 Nodaway Valley and #6 Albany on Tuesday, February 22 at 7:00 pm.  North Andrew defeated Albany 54-15 in January, but has not played Nodaway Valley.

North Andrew is led in scoring by Madison Lillard with 8.7 points per game.

North Andrew Boys (17-9) are the #2 seed and will play the winner of #3 Albany and #6 King City on Wednesday, February 23 at 7:00 pm.  North Andrew is 2-0 vs. Albany.  They won 40-28 in a conference game in January and won 54-44 in the Stanberry Tournament consolation final.  North Andrew defeated King City 74-43 in December.  North Andrew has won 11 straight vs. both Albany and King City.

North Andrew is led in scoring by Owen Graham with 16.5 points per game, Hayden Ecker with 13.7 and Braxon Linville with 11.3.

Class 3 District 16 (at NCMC-Trenton, Quarterfinals at Higher Seed)
Milan Girls (20-6) are the #1 seed and will play the winner of #4 South Harrison and #5 Marceline on Tuesday, February 22 at 6:00 pm.  Milan defeated South Harrison 72-58 in January and has won 6 straight against the Bulldogs.  Milan is 2-0 vs. Marceline this season.  They defeated Marceline in a regular season game at Marceline 55-41 and in the Milan Tournament championship game 53-36.  They have won 6 straight vs. Marceline.

Milan is led in scoring by Cady Pauley with 32.9 points per game.

Milan Boys (18-8) are the #1 seed and will play the winner of #4 Hamilton and #5 Brookfield on Thursday, February 24 at 6:00 pm.  Milan defeated Hamilton 54-49 in January.  They defeated Brookfield 43-38 in December.  Milan has won 5 straight vs. Brookfield.

Milan is led in scoring by Chekh Niasse with 13.0 points per game and Jeremy Bennett with 12.3.

South Harrison Girls (15-11) are the #4 seed and will host #5 Marceline on Saturday, February 19 at 6:00 pm.  
South Harrison Boys (3-22) are the #6 seed and will play at #3 Marceline on Monday, February 21 at 6:00 pm.  There is no record of South Harrison and Marceline (Girls or Boys) playing since 2007-2008 season which is as far back as MSHSAA games go.

South Harrison Girls are led in scoring by Hannah Carter with 16.5 points per game.  South Harrison Boys are led in scoring by Jad Cornett with 11.6 points per game and Cale Weller with 10.7.

Trenton Girls (15-10) are the #3 seed and will host #6 Brookfield on Saturday, February 19 at 6:00 pm.  Trenton defeated Brookfield 46-40 in December.  Trenton has won 5 straight vs. Brookfield.

Trenton Boys (1-22) are the #7 seed and will play at #2 Carrollton on Monday, February 21 at 6:00 pm.  Trenton last played Carrollton in January 2018.  Trenton has won 8 straight vs. Carrollton.

GRC East Girls Championship - Milan at Trenton

Milan Lady Cats go on the road to play the Trenton Lady Bulldogs tonight at 6:00.  The winner of tonight's game will win the GRC East and play in the GRC Championship game against St. Joseph Christian on Saturday, February 12 at 6:00 pm at Milan.

Milan comes into the game with a record of 18-5 and 6-0 in conference.  They are seeking their 3rd consecutive GRC East championship.  They are led in scoring by Cady Pauley who averages 33.7 points per game.  Pauley has 2,892 points leaving her 108 points shy of 3,000 for her high school career.

Trenton is 14-8 overall with a mark of 5-1 in conference.  They won the GRC East (and the title game) three consecutive seasons from 2017 to 2019.  Trenton is trying to win the division title after being picked to finish 7th in the media poll.  After starting the season 2-6, they have rebounded to win 12 of their last 14.  Mirena King leads Trenton with 12.2 points per game.

It will be a contrast of styles tonight.  A high scoring Milan team that averages 55.8 points a game will face a tough Trenton defense that only gives up 36.6.

After a bucket on the initial possession, Milan has several empty possession before a bucket by Cole.  She is fouled and hits the free throw.   Milan up 6-4 with 3:30 left.

Mirena King with another drive to tie it at 6.  2:50 left.

Morgan King with a 3 from the corner to put Trenton up 9-6.  2:00 left.

Trenton going into stall mode in the last minute.  Cady Pauley picks up a foul trying to steal.

Trenton throws the ball away with 7 seconds left.  Cady Pauley with about a 35 foot shot at the buzzer.  We are tied at 9 after 1.

Second Quarter
No scoring in the first 1:30 of the 2nd quarter.  Chandler Lynch is face guarding Cady Pauley and not giving her much room.

Pauley gets open for a couple of 3's, but they don't fall.  Next possession, Milan with a steal.  Cady Pauley with a layup to make it 11-9 with 4:45 left.

Mirena King with a steal on the inbound to tie it at 11 with 3:40 left.

Dickson with a jumper to put Milan up 13-11.  1:35 left in half.

A corner jumper right before the horn by Janissa Martinez gives Milan a 15-11 halftime lead.  The pace is definitely in favor of Trenton, but both teams finding a hard time generating offense.

Pauley has 8 to lead Milan.  Mirena King with 8 to lead Trenton.

Third Quarter
Third Quarter is underway.  Both teams with a possession in the first minute without scoring.

Trenton very patient on offense, but unable to get the shot to fall.  Milan comes back with a bucket in the lane from Avery Pickering.  Mirena King answers with a 3.  17-14 Milan with 5:39 left.

Pickering back on the other end with another bucket down low.  Cady Pauley called for a charge.  Her second.  Milan up 19-14 with 4:40 left.

Fourth Quarter
Avery Pickering with a bucket for Milan in the lane.  She has all 6 of Milan's points this half.  They lead 21-19 with 7:10 left.

Chandler Lynch is fouled and hits 2 free throws. It is tied at 21 with 6:33 left.

Morgan King with a 3 to put Trenton up 24-21 with 5:37 left.

Pauley with a 3 from the corner with 4:00 left.  Milan leads 26-24.

Madi Moore with a layup to tie it at 26 with 3:10 left.

Cady Pauley answers with a bucket and is fouled with 2:55 left.  Free throw is good. 29-26 Milan.

Emerson Pauley is fouled for Milan and shoots 1-1 with 1:50 left.  She hits 1 of 2. Milan is up 30-26.

Mirena King drives for a layup with 1:17 left.  The bucket cuts it to 30-28 Milan.

Emerson Pauley misses front end of 1-1.  Mirena King hits 3 on other end for Trenton.  Trenton leads 31-30 with 38.3 left.

Morgan King misses a 3 at the buzzer.  Milan holds on for a 32-31 win over Trenton.

Milan will play St. Joseph Christian for the GRC Conference Championship game on Saturday at 6pm.

GRC Showcase Scenarios - Updated February 7

The placement of the games will be based on the order of finish.  At this point, there are 4 conference games left for both boys and girls (1 West and 3 East Division).  Here are scenarios for each:

GRC Showcase Spectator Information

2022 Grand River Conference Basketball Showcase Spectator Info 

When: Saturday, February 12th 
Where: Milan C-2 School District ( 373 S Market St, Milan, MO 63556 ) 

Guest/Spectator Parking: 
  • Guests/Spectator parking is located in several different areas on the Milan Campus. You can park in the North Gravel Lot, Paved East Lot or along Market Street. (See Map Below)
  • The only spectator entrance for the games is located at the East Cafeteria Doors. (See Map Below)
  • Teams/Buses will park behind the building in the West Gravel Parking Lot. No fans will be allowed to enter from this location.  
Spectator/Fan Information:
  • Admission Cost: Adults $5 Students/Children-$3
  • Conference Passes: ARE NOT ACCEPTED
  • Pass List: Each school is to have submitted a pass list. Anyone not on this pass list will be charged the $5 admission fee.
  • Re-Admittance: Each fan leaving the event must request with the Gate Workers if they wish to re-enter the event without being charged the initial admittance fee.
  • There will be a wide variety of concessions available in the cafeteria and other locations near the gyms. (See Menu Below)
GRC Showcase T-Shirt Sales: 
  • T-Shirts will be for sale throughout the day in the Cafeteria while supplies last. 
GRC Basketball Team Information
  • Eastern Division Teams are Home Team on the Scoreboards & will be wearing home whites. Western Division Teams are Guests on the scoreboard & wearing away uniforms. 
NFHS Live-Stream 
  • For those that cannot attend in-person: NFHS Network will live-stream games via automated cameras in both gyms with a paid subscription. Milan currently has no attendance restrictions. ( https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/milan-high-school-milan-mo )

  • If Putnam County defeats Princeton and Trenton, Gallatin defeats Maysville and Maysville defeats Putnam County, then there is a 3-way tie between Gallatin, Maysville and Putnam County for #1 through #3 that will be broken by scoring margin in the games between each team
    • Putnam County defeated Gallatin by 3 and still has to play Maysville
  • If Putnam County defeats Maysville and wins at least one of its other two games, then Putnam County finishes #1
