Marceline defeats Monroe City 8-1 in softball season opener

Marceline Lady Tigers traveled to Monroe City to take on the Lady Panthers in both teams' season openers.  Marceline came away victorious with an 8-1 win.

After Marceline went down in order in the 1st inning, the Lady Panthers were able to load the bases in the bottom of the inning.  Emerald Bloss was able to get out of the inning unscathed after Cam Dyer grounded out to Bloss to end the inning.

Marceline struck first in the top of the second inning when Bloss hit the second pitch over the fence in center field.  The Lady Tigers added on two more runs courtesy of a Lady Panthers error and an RBI single by Logan Rainey.

There was no more scoring until the 5th inning when Gentry Burns drove in Hadley Dorrell on a groundout followed by an RBI double from Bloss.  Monroe City would get on the board in the bottom of the inning when Emery Kendrick singled in Rylie Mulvaney to cut the Marceline lead to 5-1.

Marceline would add more in the 6th and 7th innings.  A Dorrell RBI single plated one run in the 6th, while Ella Moseley hit her first career home run with a 2-run shot in the 7th to give Marceline the 8-1 final.

I caught up with Marceline coach Todd Lowther after the game to talk about the Lady Tigers first win of the season.

Bloss went 2-for-4 in the game while also pitching a complete-game three-hitter with 8 strikeouts.  She was named the United Country Real Estate GRC Media Player of the Game.

The Lady Tigers are 1-0 on the season and will play against Owensville in the first round of the Moberly Tournament on Saturday.
