Brookfield returned to familiar territory on Friday night when they traveled to Monroe City to face a former conference opponent in the Class 2 District 7 Championship Game.  Brookfield left the Clarence Cannon Conference after the 2023-24 school year to join the GRC.  Monroe City Panthers, who won the CCC this season, entered the game after defeating rival Palmyra.  Brookfield earned a spot in the District Championship game after a win over another CCC foe in Macon.

Brookfield got on the board first when Coldon Parrent ran it in from one yard.  Parrent added the conversion to make it 8-0.  Monroe City countered with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Wyatt DeGrave to Payton Hetheriton.  Quincy Mayfield added the conversion.  The first drives by both teams took up almost the entire quarter which ended tied at 8.

After a Brookfield punt early in the 2nd quarter, Monroe City's Jayden Holland scored from 2 yards and added the conversion.  Brookfield answered when Phoenix Jordan scored on a quarterback sneak (or more precisely a tush push).  On the conversion, Coldon Parrent escaped trouble in the backfield and was able to get to the 1-yard line.  Parrent's incredible effort fell just short.  Monroe City was able to add another touchdown before the end of the half when Mayfield scored from 11 yards, and Holland added the conversion.  Monroe City lead 24-14 at the half.

The third quarter was not kind to the Bulldogs.  Monroe City opened the half with a 5-yard touchdown from Holland.  Brookfield proceeded to fumble on its next two possession.  The Panthers took advantage of both turnovers.  Holland scored two more times to give Monroe City a 48-14 lead.  After Brookfield turned it over on downs at midfield, DeGrave found Cole Hays wide open for a 53-yard touchdown with 8 seconds left.  Coldon Parrent returned the ensuing kickoff 61 yards for a touchdown as time expired on the quarter.  A Dammian Glasgow conversion made it 56-22 Panthers.

Monroe City added one more touchdown in the 4th quarter when Quincy Mayfield ran it in from 10 yards.  That would be the last score of the game, resulting in a 62-22 Monroe City victory.

Brookfield ends the season with an 8-3 record.  They will open up the season next year against Monroe City looking for revenge.

Monroe City continues in the postseason.  They will host Mid-Buchanan in the State Quarterfinals.
