#3 Worth County Tigers and #7 Pattonsburg Panthers faced off Friday night with a GRC West Championship on the line.  But that was not the main storyline on Friday night.  After Pattonsburg had their senior night presentation, the skies opened up and it started storming.  With lightning in the area, the officials delayed the start of the game 45 minutes.

Once the teams got underway, Pattonsburg received the opening kickoff.  They were not able to take advantage, turning it over on downs at their own 22-yard line.  Worth County capitalized immediately when Cole Roby scored from 8 yards out.  Hayden Sanders called his own number for the conversion to put Worth County up 8-0.  Pattonsburg answered when Gage Fortner connected with Wyatt Maize from 28 yards.  Cole Ruby scored again on the next possession, this time from 45 yards.  After trading punts, Worth County led 16-6 after the 1st quarter.

As lightning was seen in the distance, both teams were lighting up the scoreboard in the 2nd quarter.  Wyatt Maize scored from 8 yards out to cut the lead to 16-12.  On the next possession, Pattonsburg had Worth County backed up inside their own 10-yard line, but Brayden Stevens escaped for a 71-yard touchdown run.  The Tigers recovered the onside kick, and Sanders capitalized on the next play with a 37-yard quarterback keeper.  In 10 seconds of game time, the Tigers extended the lead to 32-12.  Pattonsburg answered quickly on the next play when Wyatt Maize scampered downfield from 68 yards.  With 8:32 left in the 2nd quarter, it was Worth County 32, Pattonsburg 18.  The lightning was getting closer, so the officials stopped the game again, this time for 30 minutes.

After play resumed, Cole Ruby found the end zone for the 3rd time, when he scored from 13 yards.  Pattonsburg marched back down the field, and had 4th and goal from the 1, but a bad snap ended the drive.  Worth County let the clock run out with a 40-18 halftime lead.

The second half was played mostly in the rain and dominated by the Tigers.  Sanders scored two touchdowns in the 3rd quarter, one from 60 yards and the other from 39.  Caleb New added a touchdown with a catch in the end zone.  Camden Griffith scored on a reception for Pattonsburg's only score in the 3rd.  Worth County led 60-24.

Some of the second-string players got into the end zone for the Tigers in the 4th.  Jordan Danner and Bentin Roberts both scored.  The game was stopped with 6:52 left, and Worth County came away victorious 74-24.

Worth County's win gives them at least a share of the GRC West Football Championship.  With a win next week over King City, they will win it outright.  The conference title is their fourth 8-man championship in the GRC/GRC West and 8th overall.

Pattonsburg loses its first game of the year.  They will travel to Albany next week.  They can still share the title with a win over Albany and a King City win over Worth County.
