GRC and GRC West capture state titles in 11 individual Track & Field events, Stanberry Girls finish 3rd in Class 1

Athletes from the GRC and GRC West competed in the State Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday.  They brought home State Championships in 11 events, plus many more brought home medals.

Stanberry Girls also brought home team hardware, finishing 3rd Place in Class 1.  It is the sixth Top 4 finish in school history for Stanberry Girls Track & Field.  Their last Top 4 finish was in 2003 when they finished second.



Three of the State Champions broke State Records in Class 1

  • Maverick Gentry, Polo - Broke the state record in Discus with a throw of 52.89m (173' 6")
  • Kyle Emerson, Albany - Broke the state record in the 200m Dash with a time of 21.57 seconds.
  • Annabelle Gardener, Pattonsburg - Broke the state record in the High Jump with a jump of 1.71m (5' 7.25")
Four athletes repeated as State Champions:
  • Maverick Gentry, Polo, captured his 3rd straight Discus Championship
  • Eva Engel, Worth County, captured her 3rd straight Pole Vault Championship
  • Kyle Emerson, Albany, captured his 2nd straight 100m Dash and 200m Dash Championships
  • Annabelle Gardener, Pattonsburg, captured her 2nd straight High Jump Championship
Other notable accomplishments:
  • In addition, with Eva Engel winning the Pole Vault, the GRC/GRC West has won the last seven Class 1 Girls Pole Vault titles.
  • Gage Gilbert captured the first-ever Boys Javelin for the GRC.  With his title, there has been a GRC or GRC West champion in every Boys and Girls event.
  • Albany captured the 4x100m Relay title for both boys and girls.  In both events, they were trailing on the final leg.  The girls won by 0.10 seconds over Worth County, while the boys won by 0.002 seconds over Hardin-Central.  King City also won both races last year.
  • The GRC West captured the top three spots in the Girls Class 1 4x100m Relay.  In the past two years, six different GRC West schools have state medals in the Girls 4x100m Relay
  • 17 of the 18 GRC and GRC West schools brought home at least one state medal.

Bell Game Rivalry joins the GRC

by Jeremy Benson, GrandRiverConference.com It's a mere 12 miles that separate Brookfield High School and Marceline High School, as per Google Maps.  But what's truly remarkable is the 54-year hiatus since these two schools last clashed in a conference football game. Brookfield and Marceline were both in the North Central Missouri Conference (NCMC) in 1970.  In 1970, the NCMC decided to fold.  A new conference with the same name would be organized,  Brookfield remained in a revamped NCMC from 1971 to 1975 before going independent until 1986, when they joined the Tri-Rivers Conference.  They jumped to the Clarence Cannon Conference (CCC) in 2010. Marceline was in the Northern Missouri Conference from 1971 to 1974 before joining the Lewis & Clark Conference in 1975, where they would be members for almost 50 years.
