Platte Valley's Ridge Clements scored on a touchdown and 2-point conversion with 3:59 left in the District Semifinal against Worth County. It gave them a 30-28 lead. It looked like their lead would hold up when Worth County had a 4th and 7 at their own 32 with 2:33 left in the game. Hayden Sanders' pass was incomplete, but a Platte Valley defender committed pass interference, giving the Tigers new life.

With 39 seconds left in the game, Sanders found Karson Briner open in the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown.  Platte Valley had one last chance, but Worth County's pressure on a 4th and 5 at midfield led to an incomplete pass by Clements and a turnover on downs.   Worth County went into victory formation to end the game.

Worth County came into the 2nd half with a 14-8 lead and the ball.  They marched down the field and scored on a Landon Wilmes 7-yard run to go up 20-8.  Platte Valley responded on their next drive when Clements scored on a 17-yard rushing touchdown.  The Tigers extended the lead to 28-14 with 17 seconds left in the 3rd quarter when Sanders found Lucas Frisch in the end zone from 12 yards.

Platte Valley wouldn't go away.  Justin Miller caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Clements.  They converted the two points to cut the lead to 28-22.  Worth County had a chance to put the game away on their next drive, but an interception by Platte Valley at the goal line was returned to the 38-yard line.  This set up Platte Valley's go-ahead touchdown.

The first half was a defensive battle. Worth County punted three times, while Platte Valley punted twice, turned it over on a fumble, and turned it over on downs twice. Worth County led 8-0 after the first quarter on a 25-yard touchdown reception by Karson Briner. He also caught the conversion.

When a Worth County player tried to snag a line-drive punt, Platte Valley took advantage of a Worth County miscue.  It went off of his fingertips and was recovered by Platte Valley.  Clements scored from the 1-yard line on a quarterback keeper.

After a Platte Valley punt, Worth County took over at their own 19 with 1:01 left in the half.  A spectacular catch by Briner gave the Tigers the ball at the 25-yard line of Platte Valley.  Lucas Frisch then made a great catch in the end zone to put the Tigers on top 14-8 at the half.

Worth County avenged an earlier loss to Platte Valley in the season opener.  They will now travel to Albany for the district championship to face the only other team that has defeated them this season.

Bell Game Rivalry joins the GRC

by Jeremy Benson, GrandRiverConference.com It's a mere 12 miles that separate Brookfield High School and Marceline High School, as per Google Maps.  But what's truly remarkable is the 54-year hiatus since these two schools last clashed in a conference football game. Brookfield and Marceline were both in the North Central Missouri Conference (NCMC) in 1970.  In 1970, the NCMC decided to fold.  A new conference with the same name would be organized,  Brookfield remained in a revamped NCMC from 1971 to 1975 before going independent until 1986, when they joined the Tri-Rivers Conference.  They jumped to the Clarence Cannon Conference (CCC) in 2010. Marceline was in the Northern Missouri Conference from 1971 to 1974 before joining the Lewis & Clark Conference in 1975, where they would be members for almost 50 years. However, the history between these two teams goes back much further. They played against each other for the first time in 1909. Brookfield won the fi...
