Astrid Soriano wins Singles Districts in Tennis to advance to State

Astrid Soriano, a senior at Trenton, knocked off defeated Benton's Bella Thomas 6-2,6-0 in the Class 1 District 8 Championship on Thursday and will advance to State on October 24 at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.  Soriano came into Districts as the #1 seed and won all three matches in straight sets, only losing one game in her first three matches before she faced Thomas in the championship. 

Astrid participated in the state doubles tournament in her freshman and sophomore seasons. She won districts last year but lost in sectionals.  The format changed this year where the district winner advances to state.  Astrid will compete as part of the team when they start districts on Monday.
