Martens answers with a bucket in the lane.  4-2 Saints at 5:25.

King answers with a 3.  5-4 Whippets with 5 min left.

Gore with a 3 from the corner.  Whippets up 8-4 with 3:25 left in 1st.

King with a bucket to make it 10-4 with 2 min left.

Hartwig answers with a bucket to make it 10-6 Whippets with under a minute remaining.

Gore with a bucket to answer.  Ellington up 12-6 with 30 sec left.

Arnold is fouled and hits both FTs to cut lead to 12-8 with 20 sec left.

King with another 3 with 6:20 left.  Whippets lead 18-12.

Martens with a put-back off of a missed 3 makes it 18-14.  Hackworth scores a couple possessions later for Ellington.  Timeout Saints with 4:53 left.  Ellington leads 20-14.

Hentges with a corner 3 for the Saints cuts the lead to 3, but Price is fouled for Ellington.  She hits both and Ellington leads 22-17 with 2:57 left.

Arnold is fouled on the other end and hits 1 of 2.  22-18 with 2:42 left.

King with another 3 to make it 25-18.  2:30 remaining.

Saints miss a couple of shots, but Fahrmeier gets offensive board and is fouled.  She misses both.  Still 25-18 with 1:40 left.

Hackworth with a bucket in the lane. 27-18 Whippets with 1:25 left.

Hentges answers with another 3.  A min left and Whippets lead 27-21.

A drive and lay-up by Arnold cuts lead to 27-23 with 20 sec left.

At the half, Ellington leads St. Paul Lutheran 27-23.

Martens with a drive in the lane to make it 33-25.  Saints timeout with 6:28 left.

Hackworth scores to make it 35-25 Whippets.  Martens with another bucket to cut it back to 8, but Price answers for Ellington.  Now 37-27 with 5 min left.

Arnold with a 3 for the Saints, but Gore answers with her 3rd 3 of the quarter.  Whippets lead 40-30 with 4:30 left.

Arnold is fouled with 3:14 left.  She hits 2 FTs to make it 40-32 Whippets.

Another 3 from King makes it 43-32.  By my count, King has 5 triples, Gore has 4 for a total of 9 for the Whippets.

Hackworth is fouled and hits 1 of 2 to extend the Whippets lead to 44-32 with 2:30 left.

A fast-break layup by Price extends the Whippets lead to 46-32.  Saints with another timeout with 2:06 left.

Saints have to take another time out to avoid a 5-second call.  They have one timeout left down 46-32 with 1:01 left in the 3rd.

King hits her 6th triple of the game with 30 sec left.  Martens with a bucket and then Hackworth answers right before the horn.

Whippets lead 51-34 after 3.

4th Quarter

Gore with a putback after a missed 3.  Now 53-34.

Heins is fouled for the Saints.  She hits 1 of 2.  53-35 with 7 min left.

Hackworth with a layup makes it a 20-point lead with 6 min left.

A steal and layup by King extends lead to 57-35 with 5:30 left.

Timeout Ellington with 5:23 left.

Martens with a bucket cuts it to 57-37 with 4:45 left.

Martens with another bucket at 4:15 cuts it to 18, but Gore with her 5th 3 of the game.  Heins answers with a bucket for the Saints.  Whippets lead 60-41 with 3:30 left.

Martens with another bucket makes it 60-43.  Timeout Whippets with 3:05 left.

Fahrmeier is fouled with 2:16 left.  She hits both to cut Whippets lead to 60-45.

King answers with a bucket in the lane.  Martens scores on the other end.  62-47 with 1:43 left.

Bell Game Rivalry joins the GRC

by Jeremy Benson, GrandRiverConference.com It's a mere 12 miles that separate Brookfield High School and Marceline High School, as per Google Maps.  But what's truly remarkable is the 54-year hiatus since these two schools last clashed in a conference football game. Brookfield and Marceline were both in the North Central Missouri Conference (NCMC) in 1970.  In 1970, the NCMC decided to fold.  A new conference with the same name would be organized,  Brookfield remained in a revamped NCMC from 1971 to 1975 before going independent until 1986, when they joined the Tri-Rivers Conference.  They jumped to the Clarence Cannon Conference (CCC) in 2010. Marceline was in the Northern Missouri Conference from 1971 to 1974 before joining the Lewis & Clark Conference in 1975, where they would be members for almost 50 years.
